A few thoughts mostly related to [community profile] getyourwordsout and writing communities.

I have absolutely no idea where I am as far as word count for January. I'm going to have to find the things I wrote this month, put them together, and actually see how much there is. GYWO was a last-minute thing, so I doubt I'll reach my monthly goal; I'll figure out what to do when February begins and I know how I did.

I could really stand to find more communities. Active ones, preferably, for original fiction or for fandoms that I am still somewhat active in.
I still like [community profile] fic_promptly as a concept and will still plug it from time to time, but it hasn't been working for me lately in practice. This is partially because so many prompts there are free-for-all now, which are hard to give or get meaningful feedback for works when they're from a fandom you/the prompter doesn't know. Also, a lot of the people who prompted for or were familiar with my fandoms aren't there anymore; I still get a few nice comments, but not like I used to. So I probably won't be there very often anymore. When I do write there, I'll focus on trying to come up with something for fandoms I know well, especially the older prompts. Including my own. We'll see if/when people post more.
(Maybe this is petty. I don't know; I don't think it's really a bad thing to acknowledge that something's not working for me anymore. I do need to try to catch up on comments, but I don't know what to do for free-for-all prompts in unfamiliar fandoms besides "This is nice, thanks!" or something similar. I'm always afraid people will think that's rude.)

I could try [community profile] fan_flashworks again. Especially now that they're on amnesty for the next few hours. See if I can catch up a little bit....

I have a few personal things I could do. My original Twine idea is still there, but might be over-ambitious for something I know so little about. I might do something a bit easier to program, like a little bear exploring a forest. Focus on writing and getting a decent story flow going before I start worrying so much about making the hidden mechanics work.

There's a new prompt comm, [community profile] fandomweekly - I don't know the mod, but I'm keeping an eye on it. I want to get more writing done through the year, instead of all at the end during NaNo.

I used a word tracking spreadsheet when I was doing GYWO - there's some fandom ones here for download.

A spreadsheet is a must for word tracking. I have a Google doc that I made for myself and have been using it, with minor modifications, for several years. If you'd like to see how I've set it up, or even borrow the format, let me know.

Unfortunately I can't really help you with writing communities. I've been a member of [livejournal.com profile] ushobwri for awhile, but I've been less active there lately. Prompt communities haven't been of much use to me in awhile, and I'm not sure why. I follow a Dragon Age one but have never written for it. If you find one that speaks to you, let me know?

Best of luck! It can be pretty hard to find readers sometimes.
