I'm trying to do a retrospective of this year and failing, largely because my memory is so slippery. But on the whole, it was a good one.
I've learned a few new things (put me in front of a Python IDE and I'll likely be able to write a few functions.) Programming is something I want to continue with, I've decided. (I'm trying to teach myself enough Java to take a particular class, which is a lot harder than Python, but I'm getting there.)
Ideally, I'll be back in college by the end of the year, although most likely it'll be the local community college, because I can't afford another four years right now. Still, it'll be something to get me started.
Work was difficult, but not as bad as I expected - they even put me back on day shift recently. I am officially considered a part-time employee now, unfortunately - I missed the threshold by less than a half-hour per week, as I recall. D: But I'm still getting decent hours, at least. And we'll do better once my SO has a job (he graduated recently and is now job-hunting. I hope he finds something soon, something that isn't completely soul-draining.)
I started working out earlier this year, but I've sort of fallen off the wagon since then, largely thanks to work not being as part-time as advertised. Part of my goal this year is to do at least some exercise every day - it doesn't have to be as much as I was trying to do before. Just, y'know, something.
I recently acquired a Wii - not the new one, the old one. (Can't afford the new one yet, after all.) So far I don't have much in the way of games for it - Lego Star Wars III, A Boy and His Blob, Sonic the Hedgehog and the Secret Rings (?) and New Super Mario Bros Wii. I'll definitely pick up Okami at some point in the future, and probably Epic Mickey and Twilight Princess. Any other recommendations?
Also, I nearly finished my NaNo novel from 2012. I'm going to let it rest for a while, though, and spend most of 2013 editing and rewriting my novel from 2011. It needs a lot more work, but I like how it turned out anyway.
That's about all. How's everyone else feeling about 2012?

I'd say learn C/C++. (No job vacancies but you'll get the fundamentals. And any C++ programmer can program java, albeit with truck loads of cursing.) Or learn HTML5/javascript.

Date: 2012-12-31 11:28 pm (UTC)From:Muramasa: The Demon Blade - side-scrolling stabbination set in a mythical pseudo-Japanese landscape. 2D with absolutely glorious hand-painted backgrounds that are just so beautiful I can't even.
I haven't gotten far into Xenoblade Chronicles yet, but I loved what I played, and it got phenomenal reviews all over everything. There's also Last Story, which is by Mistwalker Studios (aka "all the people who left Squaresoft when they merged with Enix/Tri-Ace").
I had a lot of fun with the Mario Galaxy games, as well.
