A lot of server-side stuff uses Java, and will continue to do so for many years. And it's used in Android. But I don't think that in X years time they'll be hiring java neophytes. Definitely check the job boards for vacancies before you invest a lot of time.
I'd say learn C/C++. (No job vacancies but you'll get the fundamentals. And any C++ programmer can program java, albeit with truck loads of cursing.) Or learn HTML5/javascript.
