Okay. Going to pick up my playthrough of Dragon Age this weekend. Pretty sure my roommate's going to get the sequel, at some point in the near future.

This game simply hasn't enthralled me the way that, say, Mass Effect did. (I would totally play through that series a couple more times. In fact, if I have time before ME3 comes out, I probably will.) I don't know why, since it looks like it has a lot of things I want in a game - decisions that actually impact what happens with the world at large in a visible way, interesting side characters in the party that actually interact with each other - but for some reason I'm just not as interested as I expected to be. Maybe it's because I've already watched my roommate play so much of it that I'm kind of bored with it by proxy. Maybe I'm missing some of the appeal by playing it on the 360; I've heard that the play control is much better on the computer version. But since it looks so appealing in other ways, I'll give it one more shot.

I kind of want to start over - I wasn't very far along. But when I think about doing that, I think about doing the Broken Circle questline again, which I had just finished, and decide that no, this playthrough is just fine. (The PC version gets a mod that removes most of the Fade sequence from the Circle quest but still gives you the codex entries and stat bonuses from the area; you just have to do the nightmares and fight the last boss of the area. I envy the PC players, because I would use that mod. I've played through the Fade once, and that was enough for me.)

Actually, the Fade goes by a lot quicker the second time. You know, mostly, what you have to do, and the doing it comes out as just like writing lines. It's still not exactly enthralling gameplay, though.

On the plus side, you can snark so hard at Guy At The End Whose Name I've Forgotten. He thinks he's duelling verbally with you, but he's not. He's having his ass handed to him and he doesn't even know.

I really loved Dragon Age, myself, but I expect that was largely a combination of Alistair and the fact that I didn't expect to love it. You're right that it's no Mass Effect. The Warden's fun and all, but I'm [personal profile] kadrin and Commander Shepard is my favourite main character on the Citadel.
