Actually, the Fade goes by a lot quicker the second time. You know, mostly, what you have to do, and the doing it comes out as just like writing lines. It's still not exactly enthralling gameplay, though.
On the plus side, you can snark so hard at Guy At The End Whose Name I've Forgotten. He thinks he's duelling verbally with you, but he's not. He's having his ass handed to him and he doesn't even know.
I really loved Dragon Age, myself, but I expect that was largely a combination of Alistair and the fact that I didn't expect to love it. You're right that it's no Mass Effect. The Warden's fun and all, but I'm kadrin and Commander Shepard is my favourite main character on the Citadel.
