My boyfriend convinced me to sign up for YT this year after I'd already decided I probably wouldn't, mostly by asking me to show it to him so that he can sign up. I am still getting used to having a boyfriend who's interested in this stuff. :D He and I both made some nominations yesterday.
My nominations this year:
Bioshock
Dragon Quest VIII
Folklore (game)
InFAMOUS
The Quiet Earth (film)
V for Vendetta (comic)
So Folklore is my "obscure even by these standards" pick of the season. (It would be The Quiet Earth, but there's a fic for it in the archives already - a gift for me from a previous year, but still, it's there. Not so with Folklore.) Hopefully I can get something for it this year; it's an interesting game. InFAMOUS comes close, but it was more popular overall, I think? Just not so much with fanfiction. Folklore was obscure across the board; I've only met a very few people who've even heard of it, on line or off.
Also, I am hoping that adding BioShock 2's characters to the existing category was the best way to go about doing this, since they're set in the same place. I know that BioShock Infinite is more than likely going to be its own category, once it comes out, since it isn't set in Rapture and possibly isn't set in the same universe (Ken Levine is being evasive as to whether they're in the same universe or not; I'm assuming that they are until proven otherwise, honestly.)
I was very tempted to nominate Mass Effect, but I am almost certain that the fandom's too big for that now. I mean, it may not have too many fics on AO3 - which isn't surprising because there aren't as many video game fandoms on that site in general as there are in, say, books or TV shows - but the fandom's been through two anonymous meme posts and is working on a third, and there is no end in sight. I will offer it if anyone asks for it, but I'm not going to nominate it myself.
I also find it funny how our respective nominations differed. He asked for almost all TV shows and movies; his one video game request was for Little Big Planet, which he's probably going to request fun fluffy fic about. :) (Although, on re-reading the new criteria for requests, I may have told him wrong about one thing; if they're using AO3 as the criteria instead of ff.net, FFIX just might end up being an eligible fandom this year. He'll be happy if that's the case.)
