My professor complained about the cheating in our classes, and how employers are getting back to him and saying that it's resulting in students that are unprepared for employment.
I never cheated. I can honestly say that. If I couldn't finish my homework in time, I just didn't turn it in. And I still passed the class in which I learned Java with a B. That was 2016.
I'm looking at an easy challenge on a coding site. I've been staring at it for thirty minutes, trying to write code, getting really weird errors. I'm starting to think that I should just give up - if I can get a 3.5 GPA without cheating and still not be able to do what should be easy, then I'm not cut out for this. But then again... if I don't do this, I've wasted another five years.
It's. It's just been a rough night.

Date: 2019-01-17 04:46 am (UTC)From:(Also in anecdotal news, my partner is a professional programmer and I bet if I plopped him in front of a coding challenge and made him solve it on his own without google, referencing ANYTHING else, or asking his colleagues, he would TANK. A good portion of his skill isn't in being about to write the code and solve any issues without help—it's knowing how to recognize he needs help, search for other people having the same issue, reference the documentation for the code, and apply what he finds to fix the problem.)

It's not the answer I wanted to use (which is still not really working for me for some reason and I feel like I'm missing something obvious about how Java uses characters) but it's working.

Date: 2019-01-17 12:21 pm (UTC)From:This reminds me of all the job hunting I did after art school. The curriculum was 90% based in print design and I had one graphic design class that focused on web design. Most of us senior year took a couple of digital media classes due to the lack of focus in digital design in our own major. Nearly every job posting I found required some level of expertise in digital design. I knew a lot of design students never getting jobs because they simply didn't have those skills. It's beyond frustrating.
