Now that Halloween is over, I need help costuming on the cheap. Hopefully we can find some good things on clearance to help out. (Is that how it works?)
I already have a white skirt I want to dye dark red (cotton AFAIK, dunno exactly how well it'll work but it's worth a try). The hard part will be a white tunic of some sort, preferably long-sleeved, with some dragon-scale-patterned fabric on cuffs and collar and a particular golden pattern on the front of it. Not sure whether to go with iron-on (if I can figure out how,) embroidery, or something else. I'll probably have to draw it on first just to have something to fill in. (Bead embroidery might be fun, especially since I've started doing beadwork and bead weaving again. But it might be simpler just to do some kind of medallion, if I go that route, instead of trying to wear it on a tunic. The weight would be harder to offset.)
The other costume will be simpler; I have another white skirt to dye again (brown or rusty brown, probably) and can ask a friend to make a simple peasant blouse. The only complicated part are the beaded medallions I'm making with symbols. (The hard part is counting the damn beads. I've already accidentally used even-count on a thing I wanted to use odd-count gourd stitch on, and I'm far enough that just changing it would be irritating.)
(I did enjoy larping today. I feel more comfortable with it than I did five or six years ago. And hopefully, with my schedule the way it is, I'll be able to show up more often.)
