Just an update on how things are going, since there's not been much to say lately.
(I think that part of the reason that I find keeping friends online so difficult is because I find chatting with people online so exhausting. It's like... I've thought of three or four things to say... do I really have to keep it up for a whole conversation? Argh.)
So far I've had good luck with Coursera. I finished one programming course about a month ago, and I'll be finishing another by the end of the week. (I'm nearly done with everything for that class, although the bonus explosions are giving me trouble. I think I finally got it, though.) I'm signed up for several more, and I need to do some JS review work for a class on algorithims before that one starts.
Programming is fun, once I get past the frustrating parts. It's a very picky thing, but I think I'm getting used to it. I'll have more time to practice at the start of next year... the one advantage of losing the holiday hours.
At any rate, other than learning what I can about programming, I'm mostly trying to edit last year's NaNoWriMo novel for possible publication (someday), and replaying the first two Mass Effect games in preparation for the third. I can share screenshots once tumblr is back up. Say what you want about the site, but it's good for sharing screenshots and miscellaneous pictures.
Oh, which reminds me. I did finish this year's NaNoWriMo, wordcount-wise, anyway. I'm going to try to finish the story, although it'll probably end up being completely different by the time I'm done. It's basically about a changeling girl who comes back to find that the only member of her family left alive is her uncle, and he takes her in and he's trying to protect her while trying to run from the big nasty ogre who's trying to take her back. The ending is coming slowly, but aside from that, it's turning out better than I'd expected.
Anyway. I'm back to working early mornings again, so I am going to bed soon. Hard to stay up late when you wake up at four.

Date: 2012-12-14 09:45 pm (UTC)From:It's pretty obviously inspired by nWOD's Changeling - in fact, it's probably fairly obvious to people who know New World of Darkness that it's a crossover between Changeling and Hunter, since the uncle who's taking care of the girl is eventually Null Mysteriis in all but name. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it once it's done, whether I'm going to post it or rewrite and maybe try to publish. We'll see!
