Okay, so this game? Great fun. :D
There are a few minor spoilers here - I'm currently at the beginning of Chapter 2 for both storylines.
In no particular order:
- It's so nice to see a protagonist who doesn't talk much, not because he's an arrogant jerk or because he utterly lacks social skills, but because he just doesn't really want to talk very much. It's very refreshing! I mean, Stocke is perfectly able to make long flowery speeches - he proves as much when you're trying to cross the checkpoint - but he just... doesn't. It's how he is, and that's okay.
- He also isn't a completely friendless bastard. Far from it. (<3 Rosch and Sonja and their worrying over Stocke, and vice-versa. :D)
- Kiel is so adorkable, with his hero worship and his crushes on just about everyone. But are we ever going to get to see him in action? D: I want to see his sword dancing skills! (Although it was pretty awesome, getting to learn them with Stocke.)
- In fact, I could probably gush over all of the characters. I don't think there's a single one that I don't like so far, except maybe for some of the villains, and that's probably a given. I do wish that Stocke's secret agent boss would stop being so damn cryptic, and Hugo... geez. Not sure what to make of him yet, except that he'll probably end up being the Big Bad, or close to it.
(Speaking of Heiss - I can't help but hope that he won't turn out to be as shady as he looks, although that's partially just because I've played a lot of JRPGs and know the usual tropes. I don't WANT the man who immediately looks untrustworthy to be untrustworthy. Just once, I want the shady-looking man with the big nose to be the hero's truest friend.)
- Also, love the whole "powers behind the throne" thing that both nations have going on, especially with Dias and Selvan. I can't wait to find out what they were scheming during the fade to back in Chapter 1. :D I'm probably going to really like those two.
- Enjoying the gameplay so far, although I do sort of wish I could squeeze in more turns. Controlling the battlefield is hard at this stage of the game - I can't move enough people around soon enough. Maybe it gets easier? (I nearly got SLAUGHTERED in a boss battle last night! I think it was in the Alternate Sand Fortress battle? The enemy agent who could throw Power Zones on the battlefield that made light soldiers hit twice in one attack for 120+ HP? Damn, I wish I could get that spell!)
The time travel thing is also an interesting mechanic. The one thing I wish about it is that the time kids didn't give quite so many clues. I could probably have figured out a lot of what they've told me on my own, really.
In conclusion, I really like this game and can't wait to finish it.

Also, re: the battles -- in one of the Chapters 2, you'll gain the ability to delete enemy turns. It's strictly rationed, of course, or it would break the game, but it adds some bonus strategy to the system. ^^
(The other thing I'm finding really helpful is poison, which works on a lot of enemies and even most bosses -- keep a couple of Poison Wings in your inventory for the battles when Raynie isn't in your party, and apply liberally!)
