Spent some time walking around a Ren Faire today. It was fun - looked at lots of neat stuff, saw lots and lots of good costumes. Ren Faires are not good places to be when you don't have money, though; all of the shinies worth buying are really, really expensive.
Still, walking through a Faire like that is a bit like walking through a place that was supposed to be an accurate re-creation of the Eighties, only half the crowd is dressed up in fashions ranging anywhere from the turn of the 20th Century to modern-day clothes. Which would be hilarious, actually.
(There was a lady there who was selling portraits of people walking around at the Faire, drawn in twenty minutes. I wanted to ask her how her business was going, but I didn't want to be rude. The profit margins for the vendors there in general must be ridiculously slim.)
