What the heck, I'll do this one. I haven't done anything else worth blogging about today. (I haven't advanced the plot on VP:S any further yet, and I mostly either slept or drove around with one of my roommates. We did go to the video game store to find out if Odin Sphere or the DS FFIII release were in stock, but they weren't, so we didn't actually purchase anything.)
(As always, I have a very loose interpretation of the whole relationship thing. Platonic, romantic, could-go-either-way... they're all in here.)

1.) Why do you dislike #11 so much? (Claude/Rena)
Because I really think that they're both better suited for other people in the cast. Because when they're together the seem to bring out the worst in each other, their worst insecurities - and I admit that this is partially because of how I play the game. I just think that both of them need to have more maturity and more self-confidence in their relationship, and they would both have to mature a lot for it to work out in the long run.
Also, because I hate their ending together on Earth with a burning passion.
2.) Who is someone you know that ships #13? (Lister/Rimmer)
Besides my roommate (maybe), no one personally that I know of. But there's this one author named Kahvi that I've seen around online, and she writes some great stuff about them.
3.) What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3 (even if the show isn't on the air anymore)? (Locke/Setzer/Celes)
In my head, they're all living together on their airship, flying around, rebuilding their broken world and basically being awesome together.
4.) Which is your favorite episode for #1? Try to pick just one. (Fuu/Jin/Mugen)
This is a hell of a tough call, considering that the whole series was one long favorite moment for these three. -_-' But if I had to choose one I'd have to say Episode 20, for two reasons - first, the conversation where Sara asks Fuu which of the two men she wanted to stay beside her, and Fuu can't give a real answer, but just says that she wishes that the journey with them could go on forever. And then there's the scene where Jin and Sara have just left - and Fuu is falling apart because she thought that Jin would refuse to go with Sara and she could go on traveling with both Jin and Mugen.
5.) How long have you been following couple #6? (Saiga/Ginza)
Pretty much from the first episode, when it became obvious that they had a thing going. I liked their relationship, even as the series progressed and it became pretty obvious that it was doomed, in much the same way that I like most doomed pairings.
6.) What's the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring? (Irvine/Selphie)
It was basically me shifting perspectives on the pairing and realizing that it was more one-sided than I remembered - Selphie seemed to think of Irvine more as a long-lost friend/big brother than as a lover. I don't care for one-sided pairings, and so I kind of lost interest.
7.) Which ship do you prefer - #2 or #4? (Zac/Joanne/Api or Lucian/Claire)
I can actually sort of answer this one because they're both the same sort of relationship - doomed, for the most part, but with a tiny grain of hope at the end. And they're both relationships that never really happen in the canon, despite (I think) at least one party really wanting them to happen, and that I want to create a happy ending for.
Anyway. It's a tough call, but in the end I'll go with #2. Right from the first time I saw that movie I just really wanted them to end up living happily ever after, like Joanne wanted. I still really like #4 but I can also see other resolutions for the characters involved, so I guess that it loses sort of by default. Or something.
8.) You have the power to make one ship non-existent. Choose from #10 or #12. (Fritz/Brenda or Edge/Rydia)
Well, I might not care for Fritz/Brenda, but it's at least a healthy relationship, and important to the series and to Brenda's character. Edge/Rydia just doesn't work on most levels - it's mostly one-sided, it involves Edge being pushy unless it's written by someone really awesome, and it ignores the fact that Rydia mostly ignores or is irritated by Edge in canon. So it's a pretty easy call - Edge/Rydia. Apologies to my friends who enjoy it - but then most of you at least acknowledge the problems I've mentioned, so you guys are cool.
9.) What interests you about #14? (Auron/Lulu)
Well, they have parallel lives - they've both lost friends, they've both put their lives on the line to protect their Summoner, and they're both very driven people. And there's the angst potential to it, which I have to admit appeals to me, what with Auron being what he is.
10.) When did you stop liking #7? (Reika/Sirius)
Around episode 22, I think, when Sirius started acting all emo. I mean, come on - I can understand how Sirius must have felt about his secret, and I can understand him secretly hoping that Reika would accept him, but at the same time, they'd been fighting Shadow Angels for a long time! Wishful thinking aside, how did he think she'd react? And even then, she still reached out for him after the shock wore off. The whole thing just irritated me. Reika deserved more credit than that after what she'd been through.
11.) Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the show? (Cloud/Tifa)
Not really. I started having more interest in their relationships with other characters, so it all balanced out.
12.) What's a song that reminds you of #5? (Yangus/Red)
I just don't get as many song associations as I used to, do I? Let me think.... well, there's "I'm Your Villain" by Franz Ferdinand, which is sort of a long shot, but is about someone whom someone else thinks of as a villain who would rather be her lover. That's kind of how Yangus sees Red for the first part of the game ("I guess we're just rivals now...") I'm not the only person who thought that Red was totally teasing him and trying to get his attention the whole time they were fighting, right?
Editing this months after the fact to add another one. Love You Madly by Cake is pretty much the perfect "Red gets tired of teasing and finally smacks Yangus with the clue-flail" song.

Tough call, but I'm going to go with Locke/Setzer/Celes and Zac/Joanne/Api, since they're the ones that are currently inspiring the most ideas from me.

If you could somehow get all four on the same page - AU crossover, anyone? Yangus and Red as scam artists-turned-merchants in modern Japan? - Yangus, Red, Saiga and Ginza all on a date would be amusing. Although Red and Ginza would probably team up and come up with all sorts of horrible things to inflict upon their "men," while the men were largely oblivious to it.
16.) Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if you'd like. (Zac/Joanne/Api)
No. But it's okay, because they get an awesome group hug when they first meet. Good enough for me.
17.) Did #4 have a happy ending? If the show hasn't ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely? (Lucian/Claire)
Sadly, no. The only chance they'd have for a happy ending, IMO, is if somehow Lucian could go back to her, and I can only see that happening following the B ending in VP:L, since then Lenneth would have been out of the picture.

I don't know, really. I've already seen their story. It would've been helpful if they'd interacted a bit more in the game, of course....

The former. I'm sorry, but Saiga/Ginza is doomed anyway, and as interesting as it was, I'd rather have the last three people on Earth being able to live together in peace and harmony.

See, that's the beauty of Star Ocean 2. I DO have that power in the game. And when I play the game, I have Claude and Rena remain friends, almost like siblings (sort of like Rena and Dias were in canon,) but pair them romantically with other people.
