Various fan community things
May. 1st, 2011 06:03 am- FFEX story is finished, except for beta and final edits, so hurray! But it is shorter than I wanted it to be. I'm going to try to write one of my other prompts as well, to that end. It'll also be short, but I'll at least feel better about producing two shorter fics for the same person, while there are folks out there getting 10K+ epics.
I guess I should just get used to the fact that I can't write longer fics for exchanges, no matter how hard I try or how much I want to. My brain gets stuck in "OSHIT DEADLINE GET IT DONE BY DEADLINE HURRY HURRY HURRY" mode, which makes it hard to keep going too far past the minimum word count, I think. :/
Still. I don't want to seem like I'm not happy about my FFEX fic for what it is, because I am. I tried to go a little outside my comfort zone and I think it worked. So I hope my recipient will be happy with it as well! I just feel bad for not accomplishing my personal goal to make it longer.
- I've been failing at producing content at 3w4dw. And I'm starting to rethink
feedback_fest because I'm horrible at promoting it. Or, the past few days, even participating in my own posts. :/ I blame RL bullshit interpersonal drama.
- In happier news, I picked up Radiant Historia yesterday and intend to start playing it today while BF is off playing MtG. I'm looking forward to this, especially after having heard some of what
vikacis and
cypher have had to say about it.
- Also looking forward to what the authors who signed up for
newgameplus have to offer. I seriously thought about signing up, but decided against it this time - one, my fandoms that I'm excited about are a bit limited (and most of them probably have fans on DW somewhere, but I can't find them, so I'd probably end up with no requests from them) and two, I've got to finish
hardmode, and distracting myself from that with another deadline is just going to set me up for failure.
Hopefully I'll be able to participate when the unclaimed prompts go out to the community as a whole, though. We'll see.
- In other fannish news,
fic_promptly has changed its prompt-leaving policy, and I'm happy about the changes. Two things:
1. People can now leave as many prompts per post as they want; the only limit is that they leave only six prompts per each fandom. (Author's Choice is free, according to the rules - does that mean we get as many as we want?)
2. We can totally go back to older posts and add new prompts to them; they'll show up on the Delicious archive.
I really think it'll promote a better variety of prompts, especially if we can get more people to actively participate. I know I've been trying to leave more prompts, and I'm going to keep trying, even if I DO end up being the only person prompting for a particular fandom.
