- C'mon, self, you need to at least start writing FFEX fic! You already know exactly what you want to do, and you know you'll need a beta for it this time more than ever so you need to be done early. Why is this hard?

- Apparently people in this house stayed up all night playing Portal 2. I will have to see how that is at some point, but I have too many other things to do first.

- Speaking of things, why can't I seem to make myself pick up DA:O again? I'd just gotten to a good part... that game feels like a lot of effort to me and I can't grok why.

Sometimes I think DW could use a general game-fanworks comm the way we have anime_manga -- maybe we're not active or numerous enough to support active comms for every different game, but perhaps a general comm?

Maybe. If nothing else it might be a good meeting place from which comms could form. Something to think about as 3W4DW approaches? I'm a terrible community mod, though - I have learned this through many years of experience and several attempts - so I'm afraid to actually make one. -_-'

There actually is a masseffect community - never updated, with three members - as well as a general bioware community with sixteen members. The latter looked more promising, even though it too had never been updated. I tried posting a fairly open-ended discussion question, to see if anyone there was actually watching. I didn't get any response at all. If I could get enough people together to join with me, maybe start a few posts that we all participate in, maybe we could wake them back up.

I just found a_gamer_is_me, which might be what you were talking about here. It... doesn't seem to get much activity either, though. Hrm. Why is keeping communities alive so hard?

mmm, it's not really what I was thinking of? I want something that feels more like fannish space -- more like "share your fic/art/icons/etc for game x." But that's just me -- I tend not to engage with "discuss topic x" communities generally.

I don't really feel like I have the time to make a good effort at putting something together on top of my other responsibilities, though. (Maybe I should be posting in create_my_comm.)

Well, if the community's been dead for ten months, could we just start posting fic, icons and art there? And ask others to do the same?

I've actually wondered something like this for a while. Is it considered bad etiquette for a bunch of people to go into a community that's been defunct for a while and basically take it over?

Yeah, for the "next big home of fandom" it was made out to be, DW has been kind of a disappointment.


DA:O is pretty tedious at times. (I blame level scaling for most of it - it's probably the worst thing ever ever to happen to RPGs.) I ended up setting it to casual after killing the 678th derplock. At that point, it didn't feel like I had anything left to prove.

My feelings about DW are much like my feelings about AO3 - I prefer them to their larger, more populated alternatives mostly because of their user features (in DW's case, the splitting of access lists is a huge selling point) and the fact that their staffs show a lot more respect and concern regarding what their user bases think about the site's decisions. This ends up distancing me from a lot of fandom-related activity, though, and that's a real shame.

I should probably just set my game to casual too, if it isn't already. I don't play for achievements; I play for the lesbian romance story!
