Ren Faire

Spent some time walking around a Ren Faire today. It was fun - looked at lots of neat stuff, saw lots and lots of good costumes. Ren Faires are not good places to be when you don't have money, though; all of the shinies worth buying are really, really expensive.

Still, walking through a Faire like that is a bit like walking through a place that was supposed to be an accurate re-creation of the Eighties, only half the crowd is dressed up in fashions ranging anywhere from the turn of the 20th Century to modern-day clothes. Which would be hilarious, actually.

(There was a lady there who was selling portraits of people walking around at the Faire, drawn in twenty minutes. I wanted to ask her how her business was going, but I didn't want to be rude. The profit margins for the vendors there in general must be ridiculously slim.)

Aw, ren faire! I really want to go to one someday, but there aren't really any in my area. Maybe someday, when I have some real transportation.

I'm really glad you had fun!

I wish there were Ren Faires in this area! There's a Ren-themed sort of... event that happens in the next city over, but it's not the same at all.

I think people who do faire do it more out of a passion for the time period than for money. Everything is expensive, but it's expensive to set up in there, and the cothes are expensive, and everything is expensive.
